I love this picture of my grandmother, Agnes Speck Cubbage, from my grandfather's slide collection.  The slide was marked with "Ag, Hudson River, Bear Mtn Bridge October 58". She looks like she was enjoying the view as the sun warmed her on a cool fall day.

I don't have many posts about my maternal side of the family, but today is a special day. My grandfather, who we called Opa, was born on 19 September 1919 in Stein, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. He was the son of Karl Haberkern and Sidonie Lindenmann.

This is a picture of my grandmother, Agnes Speck Cubbage (left), and two friends having a picnic. This photo was in my grandfather's photo collection and was presumably taken by him, probably in the late 1930's. I love the car, which was probably belonged to the friend (or he borrowed it), as I don't believe my grandfather had a car until much later. Anyone know about this old car?

This is a picture of my grandfather, Art Cubbage, at age sixteen. It would have been the summer of 1929 and he was living in Monessen, PA at the time. I need to do a little research to see where he would have been swimming in the Monessen area.

I love this picture of my grandmother, Agnes Speck. I think it was taken by my grandfather (Art Cubbage) before they were married, probably around 1937 or 1938 in or near Monessen, PA.

Wordless Wednesday - Elizabeth Linneman Speck

This is a picture of my great-grandmother, Elizabeth Linneman Speck in Monessen, PA. She was  probably in front of her home on Donner Avenue. We can see the train tracks and trains behind her. My grandmother, Agnes, wrote on many of the Speck family photos ... not the best, but it has helped me to identify some people.

I love this picture! My father, Corky is about 2 years old. His grandmother Mem (Elizabeth Linneman Speck) and her second husband Pap (Charles Merz) are standing behind him. They are in the backyard of Mem & Pap's house on Thelma Street in Pittsburgh.

This picture was with a bunch of old family photos (click on the image for a larger view). I don't know who this woman is, but I love the picture. The old car is great (and huge - the hood is almost as tall as she is) . I like the Gulf sign in the corner and that she appears to be dressed up. Sadly, we may never know who she is!

I love this picture. I don't know anything about it, but I love it. I love the car, the dog in the front seat, the expressions on their faces. In the back seat is my great-uncle Frank R. Speck, son of Frank F. and Elizabeth (Linneman) Speck. I would guess that this pictures was taken in the late 1930's or early 1940's.

Here are some pictures of my grandmother, probably taken around 1934 or 1935 in Monessen, PA, when she was about 19 or 20 years old. They are still on one strip from the "photo booth". It's too bad the last one was folded - it looks like she had a nice smile in that one. Click on the image for a closer look.
